Kuiken Brothers Classical Moulding A Feature of Stunning Tudor-Style Home (NS Builders + Steve Tiek Design)

When designer Steve Tiek set out to create a Tudor-inspired residence in Needham, Massachusetts, he envisioned a home that blended historic charm with refined, modern craftsmanship. The design called for steep rooflines, balanced symmetry, and interiors anchored by timeless architectural details. To bring this vision to life, Tiek partnered with Nick Schiffer and the team at NS Builders, whose expertise in managing complex, detail-driven projects made them the ideal choice.

Inside the home, NS Builders relied on Kuiken Brothers’ Classical Moulding Collection to deliver crisp, historically accurate trim details. The collection’s poplar profiles ensured consistency and stability across the project, giving the team confidence that every run—from baseboards to crowns—would align perfectly with Tiek’s intent. Poplar’s workability made it an excellent choice for intricate miters, coped corners, and long wall runs, while its smooth, paint-grade surface provided a flawless foundation for the home’s traditional finishes.

Executing this level of detail demanded both precision and coordination. NS Builders’ carpentry team carefully planned transitions, controlled reveals, and aligned moulding heights to maintain the scale and proportion that define Tudor interiors. With the support of Kuiken Brothers’ extensive in-stock inventory, the team could source every profile without delay, keeping the project on schedule. Kuiken Brothers ability to quickly pull these custom looking moulding profiles from their shelves and ship them directly to the jobsite allowed NS Builders the ability to overcome the typical logistical issues and delays with custom run moulding. The moulding profiles specified on this project are not only in-stock, they ship as full 16′ lengths void of defects and are primed on all four sides. The result is a home that feels timeless, where moulding elevates the interiors and quietly tie the architectural story together.

Why Poplar? Why Kuiken Brothers?

Poplar is the ideal species for paint-grade moulding in a luxury project of this caliber. Unlike MDF or finger-jointed pine, poplar offers:

  • Crisp, sharp edges for detailed profiles
  • Greater dimensional stability and impact resistance
  • A smooth, blemish-free surface for superior paint adhesion

Mulls were custom milled to match the bead on the KB401 casing and create a cohesive mull throughout.

Above and beyond the basics of poplar, Kuiken Brothers stock poplar moulding collection also features:
