Both the 2012 and 2015 versions of the International Residential Code (IRC) include fire protective membrane requirements to enhance the fire performance of residential floor systems. This previously recorded webinar, originally presented on March 10, 2015, discusses several options that satisfy fire-protective membrane requirements of the IRC related to I-joist floor systems.
We know that the benefits engineered wood products (in particular, Boise Cascade Engineered Wood Products, Kuiken Brothers’ preferred EWP partner) are significant as they help meet homeowner demands of open floorplans, greater spans for new design and living requirements. In addition, they reduce callbacks by eliminating squeaks and vibration. They are readily available at Kuiken Brothers locations in NJ & NY (view our Boise Cascade EWP stock list) and easy to install, especially for long spans. Plus, builders have many options when it comes to constructing code-compliant I-joist floor assemblies. With the addition of the approved assembly options shown in the video above, we are certain that you will continue to use engineered wood products without disruption. For additional information, view this article on I-Joist Fire Assemblies posted on the APA – The Engineered Wood Association’s website feature document downloads.
