On Thursday May 14th Kuiken Brothers and Marvin Windows & Doors hosted a group of architects on a private tour of New York City with architectural historian Matt Postal. We focused on important examples of contemporary architecture, major development sites planned and under construction, and successful examples of adaptive reuse. Highlights included recent construction and historic structures along the High Line, LEED-certified buildings in Battery Park City and elsewhere, and works by both Pritzker-prize-winning architects and notable local firms.
The morning began with a review of the Hudson Yards mixed-use development site, walking along the High Line (starting at 34th & 11th), Adaptive Reuse in West Chelsea, the West Village and lunch at the Tribecca Grill. Immediately following lunch we walked around Battery Park City and the re-emerging World Trade Center, including Goldman Sachs Headquarters and the Winter Gardens/ Brookfield Place.
A special thank you to Marvin Windows & Doors and all of our wonderful architect attendees.
