How To Build a Crossetted Corner/ Eared Casing Architrave with Kuiken Brothers Classical Moulding

Kuiken Brothers in-stock Classical Moulding Collection offers a wide range of profiles to help replicate the past in your new construction or renovation projects today. While we receive a lot of questions about combinations of profiles (matching crown, casing, base) one of the most frequently asked questions is about the crossetted corner detail that we feature in our Greek Revival Moulding Package., our Crossetted Corner Entry, Crossetted Corner Office and the Georgian Mantel. Check out the video below by nationally recognized historic moulding and millwork expert Brent Hull, who helped us design our Classical Moulding Collection.. He provides a step-by-step tutorial on how to add this detail to your projects.

Below is a cross-section from our Classical Moulding Catalog where we show how the KB106 (1-13/16″ x 5-1/2″) casing can be cut to create the crossetted corner detail. The 1-1/2″ block is used as a filler to expand the side and head of the casing.

Here are a number of real life examples where our customers have installed the crossetted corner details.

Below are a number of examples of the crossetted corner detail at the Winterthur Museum in Delaware. These intricate details were installed in classically designed homes, often well to do land owners who had a new found wealth here in America. They used millwork to showcase that wealth, which is now an achievable look today with our in-stock and off-the-shelf poplar moulding profiles. How Kuiken Brothers Classical Moulding Collection Can Help

Kuiken Brothers has a tremendous in-stock and ready to ship collection that can quickly transform your project into one with character and Classical style. Our very own Classical Moulding Collection was launched in 2010 with the help of nationally recognized historic moulding & millwork expert, Brent Hull, Hull Millwork/ Hull Homes.

  • Historically accurate profiles curated from classical American architecture
  • Consistent, high-quality poplar for superior paint-grade applications
  • Ease of specification with our digital Moulding Design Guide and CAD files. Plus we ship jobsite direct, nationwide so if you are an architect or designer with projects around the country, you can rest assure that your designs will be accessible to your clients.

Kuiken Brothers’ profiles are categorized by architectural style (Early American, Georgian, Federal, Greek Revival, Colonial Revival, and Traditional Revival) to show which crown, casing and base mouldings go together. In the past, coordinating design elements was difficult and time-consuming and many of these profiles were available only through custom production runs. Kuiken Brothers offers free moulding samples so potential buyers can match them to existing mouldings or see how they will actually look before installation. CAD files are offered on-line for architects and designers to incorporate detail to their blueprints.
