English Inspiration, Classical Details: Kuiken Brothers Moulding Featured in a House Beautiful Magazine by J. E. Schram Architect and Cashmere Interior
For this renovation by designed by architect J. E. Schram Architect and interior designer Cashmere Interiors, the homeowners wanted to capture the cozy charm of the English countryside while keeping the home functional for modern living. By incorporating Kuiken Brothers’ Classical Moulding Collection throughout, they added timeless detail and depth, tying together traditional British inspired elements with the home’s historic Colonial Revival architecture. The result is a balanced, layered space where classic elegance meets everyday comfort.
Creating that character requires more than choosing the right exterior finishes. Interior architectural details must feel equally considered, with Classical Moulding profiles that complement the home’s proportions and reinforce its overall design. Continue reading to learn more about this project, as well as the specific Kuiken Brothers moulding profiles selected.

Schram’s architectural work demonstrates an understanding of how historic design principles can be incorporated into contemporary residences without sacrificing comfort or function.
Rather than relying on decorative details alone, successful traditional interiors depend on a cohesive relationship between doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and the mouldings that connect them.
From the moment you step inside, the attention to detail is clear. Each room flows seamlessly into the next, with carefully chosen moldings, trim, and architectural accents that enhance the home’s character and scale. The combination of rich textures, layered materials, and subtle historic references creates spaces that feel both inviting and refined, perfectly capturing the homeowners’ vision.

Why Poplar? Why Kuiken Brothers?Poplar is the ideal species for paint-grade moulding in a luxury project of this caliber. Unlike MDF or finger-jointed pine, poplar offers:
- Crisp, sharp edges for detailed profiles
- Greater dimensional stability and impact resistance
- A smooth, blemish-free surface for superior paint adhesion
Kuiken Brothers’ profiles are categorized by architectural style (Early American, Georgian, Federal, Greek Revival, Colonial Revival, Traditional Revival, and Modern Craftsman) to show which crown, casing and base mouldings go together. In the past, coordinating design elements was difficult and time-consuming and many of these profiles were available only through custom production runs. Kuiken Brothers offers free moulding samples so potential buyers can match them to existing mouldings or see how they will actually look before installation. CAD files are offered on-line for architects and designers to incorporate detail to their blueprints.
Kuiken Brothers has a tremendous in-stock and ready to ship collection that can quickly transform your project into one with character and Classical style. Our very own Classical Moulding Collection was launched in 2010.
