“There’s a difference between a house and a home – and more often than not, that difference lives in the details.”
Perched on a gentle hillside above the quiet farmlands of Waverly, Pennsylvania, a newly constructed residence stands apart from the surrounding landscape — not because it shouts for attention, but because it whispers something timeless. The home, designed by Jordan Schehr of Jordan Schehr Design, commands its setting with the kind of quiet authority that only comes from thoughtful craftsmanship.
Waverly sits in the heart of Lackawanna County, where rolling agricultural fields and dense woodland give way to modest country roads and small-town character. It is the kind of place where a well-built home is expected to belong — to feel rooted in its soil, continuous with its history. Schehr took that responsibility seriously from the very first sketch.

Elevating the Builder-Grade Details
The challenge facing Schehr was one familiar to any designer working within the constraints of new residential construction: how do you take what is essentially a builder-grade canvas and give it genuine character? Too often, production homes sacrifice proportion and detail for speed and cost — the result being houses that are functional but forgettable.
Watch: In conversation with Jordan Schehr
Jordan Schehr discusses the classical moulding selection process, the dentil cornice design, and working with the Kuiken Brothers team.
In the video above, Schehr walks through his experience sourcing the Classical Moulding profiles from Kuiken Brothers — from the initial conversation with the team about profiles and proportions, to the ease of working with an in-stock collection that eliminated the lead times and uncertainties of custom millwork.
“What impressed me most,” Schehr notes, “was that the knowledge was right there. I wasn’t talking to a salesperson — I was talking to people who understand architecture, who understand why these profiles are the way they are. That made all the difference.”

“When you look at historic homes — the ones that have endured — they share a common grammar. Profiles, shadow lines, layered trim. That’s exactly what Kuiken Brothers’ Classical Moulding collection gives you access to.”

Rather than accepting the flat, featureless rooms that typify most new construction, Schehr specified a six-piece cornice assembly — a crowning composition of stacked moulding profiles that creates rich shadow, visual weight, and architectural legitimacy at the ceiling. Each profile was sourced directly from Kuiken Brothers’ Classical Moulding inventory, available off the shelf and ready to work.

The Six-Piece Cornice — A Study in Proportion
- Bed moulding anchoring the soffit transition
- Frieze board establishing the primary fascia plane
- Dentil block course — a historically grounded, rhythmic detail
- Crown moulding bridging fascia to ceiling

Schehr’s answer was to turn to the vocabulary of classical architecture — a language spoken fluently for centuries, and one that Kuiken Brothers has long championed through its in-stock Classical Moulding collection.

The Kuiken Brothers Difference
For Schehr, what set Kuiken Brothers apart was not only the quality and range of the Classical Moulding collection, but the culture of expertise surrounding it. In an industry increasingly dominated by commodity lumber yards and big-box convenience, Kuiken Brothers represents something different — a team that cares about architectural outcomes, not just order fulfillment.
The in-stock nature of the Classical Moulding collection meant that the project could move at the pace of construction, without waiting on special orders or absorbing the cost premiums of custom millwork. Every profile Schehr needed — from the delicate cove of the bed moulding to the bold projection of the crown — was on hand, correctly sized, and most importantly, ready to ship direct to the jobsite.
