Course Overview:

This course will provide a foundation to understand control layers in a built structure, their interplay with stone wool insulation, and considerations that should be made when detailing a variety of applications across a residential building

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be given a historical overview of insulation systems used on residential buildings and the importance of the control layers that are commonly used.
  • Participants will understand how stone wool insulation contributes to each of the control layers beyond thermal control alone. This includes vapor management, importance of insulation ratios, and how the performance characteristics of stone wool differs from alternative insulation type
  • Participants will discuss the two additional layers not commonly considered: Fire and acoustic controls.
  • Participants will review and understand a variety of insulation details across a residential home. Reviewing control layers, constructability, and role of stone wool insulation.
