Boom Truck Operator Job Summary: The primary role of the Boom Truck Operator is to safely operate a boom crane to perform heavy lifting when delivering building material products or supplies to customers, vendors or other company locations.

Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as needed):

  • Verify order details and deliver orders to specified destination
  • Load and appropriately secure product, materials, or supplies
  • Check boom truck prior to driving to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
  • Verify that the boom is down and cradled prior to departure
  • Deliver product within assigned route schedule and time windows
  • Upon arrival, survey job site and unload materials in the best area available in a safe manner, taking precaution to protect product and customer property
  • Ensure boom truck has sufficient clearance of any high voltagepower lines and/or the presence of any other overhead obstacles
  • Operate hydraulic crane boom to properly rig, lift and set large loads as required on customer job sites
  • Place blocks and outriggers to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy loads
  • Provide customer service at jobsites
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of fleet vehicles
  • Conduct daily crane inspection and complete proper paperwork; follows established company safety, OSHA, and DOT guidelines

Technical Competencies:

Knowledge of BisTrack, preferred

Qualifications: (Education and yrs of experience)

  • Ability to read, write and speak in English
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must be a minimum 21 years of age
  • Possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Willingness to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card
  • Two years of experience as a crane operator preferred
  • NCCCO certification
  • Knowledge of DOT & OSHA safety regulations
  • Ability to pass an annual MVR as required per DOT
  • Pre-employment DOT drug screen and random drug screens required
  • Ability to work in a high-volume environment and in various weather conditions

  • Moving frequently, standing, walking, and sitting
  • Must be able to see and hear; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Frequent reaching, holding and grasping with hands when loading and unloading product
  • Frequent use of foot/feet to operate foot pedal/s on equipment and trucks
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting of up to 115 lbs.
  • Safely and frequently entering/exiting the vehicle as well as the rear cargo area
