Kleer PVC - More Than Just 1x4 Trim

Wednesday, 16 May 2012 12:36

Kuiken Brothers has been selling Kleer Lumber and their PVC trim products for over 7 years now and the success of their products continues to grow.

By now, most of our customers are aware of the advantages of the Kleer PVC products. Kleer is made from expanded cellular PVC and is the perfect product for most exterior applications. Most issues with wood result from moisture being absorbed, which can lead to paint blistering, peeling, cracking and the decay of the wood itself.  Kleer PVC is impervious to moisture. Kleer does not even require painting to maintain it's resistance to weather, but if you choose to, Kleer can be painted using recommended products.

Our Emerson, NJ location is just about nearing completion of an exterior renovation where we installed a lot of Kleer boards and mouldings, so I thought I would highlight some additional features, and possibly give you some new ideas to enhance your next exterior millwork project.

All of the exterior trim work is being achieved with PVC. See how the large flat surfaces are covered by PVC sheets, but routed and trimmed with PVC panel moulding to add detail and character.

(Kleer is impervious to moisture, allowing direct ground contact without the fear of rotting, common in wood)

Did you know that in addition to lineal trim boards, Kleer provides sheet goods and moulding profiles that can provide you with the capability to complete almost any exterior project that you would have traditionally used wood for in the past? Kleer shapes, bends and machines very easily. By utilizing traditional woodworking equipment you can achieve practically any fabricated assembly that you could achieve with wood.

Note the routed details on the small bracket caps, edges of the square columns and in the fluting. Kleer PVC trimboards were laminated to build up to the desired thickness and then machined in a shop to create the curved brackets that appear to support the roof line.

We wrapped the square columns in PVC moulding profiles to not only improve the detail and appearance, but to achieve the look of built-up wood mouldings. For a complete list of profiles, visit the Kleer Moulding page on our website.

If you haven't used Kleer for more than just trim boards, you will be surprised at what can be achieved and how it will extend the life of your workmanship by giving it a try. Feel free to contact your Kuiken Brothers salesperson for more information about Kleer.

The installer chose the KB104 Casing from the KB Classical Moulding collection, which measures 1-13/16" x 4-1/2", and still precisely matches the details of the stock poplar KB Classical Moulding profiles.)

New KB Classical Moulding Casings Save Time, Add Definition

Thursday, 18 November 2010 11:31

As many of you know, we introduced our brand new, in-stock line of 66 poplar KB Classical Moulding profiles at our Product Expo on November 4th. The response was tremendous with architects, builders and designers alike as we just about ran out of samples and catalogs at the show.

We spoke to a lot of our trimmer customers as we researched the designs for our new Classical Mouldings line. We often heard that "Everyone has the same look. I want to show a client something different." We were determined to create a collection of mouldings that offered our customers a unique look, a moulding that truly set their job apart from everyone else's. Based on the feedback from the EXPO, you agree that we met that goal.

Pictured above, left to right: KB104 Casing (1-13/16" x 4-1/2") and KB118 Casing (1-11/16" x 4-1/2"), both of these casings work great in Federal styles homes.  Check out the Federal Mouldings section here.

But another unique element of our new collection is that many of the profiles are based on historical, built-up mouldings that are found in the architecture of our local area. Built-up mouldings are attention grabbers, but can often be labor intensive, we kept that in mind also. People were amazed by the fact that these profiles are milled from one piece of lumber. Many people walked up to the sample boards and thought that the casings were 2 or even 3- piece build up in some cases. When we flipped the profiles on their side to show the end grain to show that they were one piece, the first response was "WOW! Think of the time and labor savings on those casings!" Many of our customers are currently using casings with a back band to achieve a larger, built-up look. That means twice as many cuts and twice and many times walking around the room to install. The mouldings found in the KB Classical Moulding collection have the height and depth only achievable in poplar, plus they are double primed and will be ready for painting with some minor touch ups. Below are a few quick pictures we took of some of the casings.

Ordering Your Windows and Doors in a Different Species? We Have KB Hardwood Mouldings to Match

Thursday, 25 March 2010 11:57

Windows and doors are full of options: clad or wood; true divided lights or simulated divided lights; standard screens or screens with enhanced visibility screen cloth; exterior colors, etc. Typically however, the interior of most windows and doors have been easy. Primed or painted white is the most popular finish for our customers, which also makes ordering mouldings easy. Primed pine or MDF mouldings are perfect for most windows and doors.

kuiken_marvin_hardwood_mahogany

Lately though, ordering doors and windows with different stainable wood species on the interior has grown in popularity. A beautiful cherry door certainly makes a statement, or maple windows to match the maple cabinets in the customer's kitchen. Choosing mouldings is not so easy any more. Now the customer has to plan far enough ahead when they order wood interior windows to order matching wood mouldings from a custom millwork shop where significant knife charges may be applied. Or do they?

Not anymore! Kuiken Brothers now has a wide variety of hardwood mouldings available in cherry, mahogany, maple and oak. Available profiles include everything from door and window casings to crowns, bases and panel mouldings. Now you can confidently order these custom windows and doors and know that Kuiken Brothers has a good supply of these high-end, hardwood mouldings in stock and ready for delivery to your jobsite.

Make sure to check out the In-Stock Hardwood Moulding section of our website, where you can view line drawings, dimensions and download individual CAD files. Kuiken Brothers Hardwood Moulding Options

Monday, 20 July 2009 13:51

We often find our customers (and ourselves!) scratching our heads when asked the question, "Which of your KB Mouldings would go well with this door?" There are certainly plenty of options to choose from. There are so many different combinations to choose from that it can be overwhelming when choosing these for the first time. And once the mouldings are chosen, don't forget about the door hardware!  The options seem endless!
