Kitchen Cabinets - Champagne Tastes and Beer Budgets.

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Get the kitchen cabinet features your customers want in a “stock” cabinet line.

As a builder today, you have to try to satisfy your customer’s “champagne tastes and beer budgets”.

Customers want all of the features in cabinets that typically come with true custom cabinetry. However, you often have to provide quote after quote to continually get the budget lower and lower. And the fun part is, the customer still wants everything included in the original quote, just at a lower price.

For situations like this, Kuiken Brothers carries Merillat Cabinetry.  The Merillat Classic line has all of the advantages of a stock cabinet including a 2 week lead time, many door styles and finishes and a very competitive price. However, Merillat Classic allows you to offer your customers such custom features as “soft-close” drawers, solid wood dovetail drawers, full extension drawer glides and plywood sides without driving the price too high or affecting the lead time. The bottom line is, your customers get the cabinets with the features they want, and you get them on time so your project runs smoothly.

Next time you have clients who want it all, but don’t want to pay for it all, consider the Merillat Classic line from Kuiken Brothers.

Kuiken Brothers Kitchen & Bath Department has 4 showrooms with displays and hundreds of door species samples. If you have a general floor plan, we will provide you with complete 20-20 CAD design drawings. From there, you can finish the installation.

If you are interested in more information on kitchens for your next project, please send me an e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or give me a call 201.705.5352.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Roll Form vs Extruded Aluminum Windows

Friday, December 18, 2009

Often, we are asked why Marvin Windows are more expensive and if they are worth the extra money. The answer is they are more expensive because they are designed and built better. There are many examples of this, but we think the picture below shows a clear difference.

croppedExtruded_vs__Coil_Stock

If you are ready to make an investment in windows, consider the overall structure of the window – sometimes it is what you don’t see that really matters. Marvin's extruded aluminum is substantially stronger than roll-form (coil) aluminum. Marvin's cladding is so strong, it exceeds the American Architectural Manufacturers Association's toughest specification (2605-05) for aluminum cladding. This specification requires both extruded aluminum and a 70% Kynar finish.

Here is another way to explain the difference between Marvin Windows extruded aluminum and other available finishes:

kuiken_brothers_clad-roll-form-vinyl-comparison

Marvin Clad - Marvin's extruded aluminum cladding offers strength and durability that roll-form and vinyl clad windows can’t offer. The difference in strength is similar to the difference in the thickness of an industrial chair versus an inexpensive lawn chair.

Roll-Form - Roll-form aluminum isn't much thicker than a soda can. It is easily bent and damaged. Most windows using roll-form aluminum come standard with a less expensive paint coating that can easily fade, chalk and scratch.

Vinyl - Vinyl expands and contracts due to heat and cold. Couple this issue with the damaging effects of UV light, and the vinyl will eventually chalk and fade. The weather’s constant climatic attack breaks down vinyl, leaving a brittle, faded shell behind.

Understanding the Energy Tax Credit for Windows and Doors

Monday, October 26, 2009

When you are discussing window and door replacement with your customers, are you letting them know that by making an "energy-efficient" improvement now through 2010 can help them earn up to a $1500 tax credit? There is a lot of information out there, but one of the best websites that we have found was launched by Therma-Tru www.MyEnergyTax.Com. They even created a video on YouTube that helps give an overview of what products qualify, and more importantly, how to submit for the tax credit with links to the IRS website and more.

Click below to watch a quick tutorial.

Understanding the Energy Tax Credit and being able to offer it to your homeowner customers as an option will be to your benefit. Helping them save $1500 on their window and door replacement can really help you differentiate yourself from your competitors.

Signature Door Impact Glass Video Demonstration

Monday, October 05, 2009

At a recent builder and remodeler event, we featured Hurricane Doors from Signature Doors.  As you know, very few homes in this area actually need "hurricane" glass, but as you can see from this video, many builders will benefit from having the option to present their customers with a theft deterrant. We had two of our sales representatives from Bridgewater Wholesalers hit this door with a graphite baseball bat and they were never able to penetrate it, despite numerous attempts. Adding this feature along with Signatures 3 & 5 point locking system adds another dimension to home security.

Signature also has some very beautiful high end custom wood doors, so be sure to check out their website. These doors are manufactured locally in Pennsylvania, so lead times are short, and we can provide expedited service should any issues or installation questions arise http://www.signaturedoor.com/woodmain.html

For more information and pricing on this option, please feel free to e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Creating a Farmhouse/ Cottage Look with KB Mouldings and Beadboard

Monday, August 17, 2009

343_large

This past Spring I spent a few weekends at my house working with our new stock MDF beadboard to create a Farmhouse/ Cottage look in our bathroom. My wife was inspired by this photo she found from TruStile's website of this two panel MDF door (TS2060) which incorporates the beadboard look we were trying to achieve.

A few months ago Kuiken Brothers began stocking MDF beadboard sheets, which has become real popular, and I can understand why. It was lightweight, paints great, and was easy to work with. To achieve this look for my home, I used the following KB Moulding profiles from our KB Stock moulding collection. Also, for the baseboard (KB210), I used a flex moulding from ResinArt, so that I wouldn't have to worry about the kids closing the shower door .... if it get's wet, it doesn't matter!
