Facing stiff competition from composite and PVC decking products, the purists will still find a variety of in-stock options in good ol' fashion wood at Kuiken Brothers.

Cedar Decking

Western Red Cedar is a superior all-weather decking material. A cedar wood deck is naturally resistant to decay and insect damage. Cedar wood decking has a unique grown in the woods preservative oil that means no further treatment of the deck material is needed unless the deck material is in direct contact with the ground. Cedar wood decking material has less than half the swelling and shrinking tendencies of other domestic softwoods. Our wood decking material lies flat, stays straight, retains fasteners and provides a firm base for paints and stains. This allows your cedar wood deck to age gracefully through decades of extreme weather.

Meranti Decking

We have teamed with BlueStar to bring you over 50 individual items of Meranti items for decks and porches. Blue Star products exceed all recognized industry standards for strength, durability, pest and rot resistance.

As far as installing Meranti in deck applications, product ventilation is the key element to keeping Meranti in good shape. It should never be used in applications where the deck is less than 3 feet off the ground and the bottom should never be boxed in; only lattice should be used to allow for the free flow of air.

Outback Decking

Nothing can match the look and feel of a real wood deck. And nothing can match the built-in protection from the elements that Outback Decking provides. Outback Decking starts with Red Meranti, one of the most beautiful, durable and decay-resistant species of wood in the world. Outback Deck sealer is then machine applied to all sides and edges of the decking under ideal temperature and humidity conditions in a controlled environment.

This is currently a special order item, but time and money saved in job-site labor should warrant giving this product a second look.

Ipe

Ipé is an exotic hardwood, Tabebuia serritofolia, used to make high quality decking boards. Throughout the United States, it is also known under various other trademarked names. While we call Ipé by its common name, it is anything but common. Ipé is naturally resistant to rot, decay, and termites. Along with its durability, it possesses a rich beauty that will add value and distinction to any home.

Want to make sure that you maintain the original dark, rich, walnut color? Ipé will weather to a soft, silver patina if left in its natural state. Should you wish to retain the walnut color, apply an oil-based UV inhibitor product.
