  • List the key differences between cladding options available in the market today.
  • Describe how to specify cellular PVC siding and trim
  • Describe what standards must be met for successful cellular PVC clapboard and trim installation, including the rage of expansion and contraction of PVC and how to accomodate the movement of the product
  • Identify errors in install projects from photos shown and recommend suggestions for proper install

This segment will deal in detail with face veneers as they relate to the wood door industry. Distinctions and comparisons will be drawn between the furniture and plywood industry. Time will be given to discussion of face veneer specification, the desired outcome vs. the grading system to which they are held accountable. Discussion of interpretation of specifications will also be included. This is a visual and hands-on seminar.

Participants will come away with a better understanding of how U BC 7-2-97 and IBC 2000, under test criteria UL 10C, affect fire-rated opening assemblies, including labeling requirements, code compliance, products and design options.

2:15 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. Architectural Hardware for Fire Rated Doors

Presented by Fred York, Ingersoll Rand (1 LU, 1 Contact Hour, 1 HSW LU)

This segment addresses how to specify the correct hardware for positive pressure applications.

3:15 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. Wood Door Construction

Presented by Felix Ortiz, VT Industries (1 LU, 1 Contact Hour, 1 HSW LU) Approx. time = 30 min.
The objective of this presentation is to become familiar with wood door construction materials and techniques. The discussion will address evolving technologies of door construction including face selection, core types including particlecore, stave core, engineered core, rapidly renewable core, crossbands, door assembly, machining, finishing methods and construction, including 5 ply, 7 ply, hot press, cold press, and specifications.

3:45 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. Factory Finishing vs. Field Finishing

Presented by Dan Hogan, VT Industries Approx. time = 30 min.
This segment will begin by discussing the benefits of factory finishing and the disadvantages of field finish. This discussion will be followed by a quick demonstration that I can assure you will “rock their socks off!”

4:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Q & A:

There will be time allowed during and after each session for questions and discussion. There will be additional time after the last presentation for interaction between the presenters and the attendees.
