Doug's Take on Things

To say the excitement is building at KBCo, as we anticipate the opening of our newest and most unique facility, on Route 10 East, Succasunna, New Jersey, would be a gross understatement.

For just about one full year, we have been planning, designing and building what I believe is a “One of a Kind, Destination Showroom”. It has absolutely been a collaborative effort. Our millwork salespeople, primary vendors, management, kitchen designers and a host of others have been actively involved in all facets of the project, from beginning to end.

I am convinced that you, our primary builder, remodeling and renovation contractor customers will find this showroom to be an asset for your business and very beneficial in providing your customers a place where they will be professionally assisted in making product selection. Whether your project calls for a new kitchen, windows, doors & trim, general millwork or all of the above, you and your customers will be able to view each product in an architecturally correct, aesthetically pleasing environment.

We are most anxious, over time, to invite each and everyone of you to our KB Concepts Showroom so you may experience it first hand and let us know your thoughts.

As the finishing touches are applied and the project nears completion, I want to say thank you to everyone who has been involved, there are too many names to mention here but suffice it to say, you should all be proud of your accomplishment. The Showroom will be the “Talk of the Town,” has far exceeded our expectations and will no doubt be a success.

Kuiken Brothers Kitchen & Bath

houseNew to Contractor Connection...
We plan to feature our professional contractor customers’ projects featuring products supplied by Kuiken Brothers Company.  This month, we feature one of our kitchens.

Our kitchen designer, Neil Fitzpatrick worked with one of our newer customers, Alpine Builders, to create the perfect kitchen and bath to compliment their latest home project in Closter.

kitchenThe house itself is 6,000 square feet and features many high-end amenities.  Alpine Builder’s John Gloria and John Ferraro wanted the kitchen to be the finishing touch that their customers would love.  Neil designed the kitchen using Decorá brand cabinets in cherry.  Neil added many dramatic accents that made the kitchen line up to the high expectations that Alpine Builders had for their entire project.  The crowning touch to this project was the expert installation performed by one of Kuiken Brothers own kitchen installers.

kitchenWe would love the opportunity to provide you with your next kitchen.  Let one of our eleven designers show how easy it can be.

Elmwood Supply - Featured Product

home theatreThe requirements for home theater construction are significant. Theater rooms can produce peaks of 110dB or more, which adjacent rooms ideally should be dead quiet. This exceeds what standard construction techniques can deliver, and requires new technologies to satisfy critical customers. The solution...QuietRock

Achieving high STC ratings for walls and ceilings has traditionally been too costly and risky – until now. QuietRock offers home theater designer/ dealer/ installer professionals and enthusiasts a complete line of high-performance products to soundproof walls and ceilings.

image009As the name suggests this is “soundproof” drywall.  It installs like standard drywall and because it is a ceramic/ polymer/ gypsum composite it provides the same sound resistance as 8 layers of standard drywall.  In addition to home theatres, QuietRock is ideal for soundproofing in multi-family housing, offices, hotels, medical institutions, schools, and more.

Kuiken Brothers Company is currently stocking this product at our Elmwood Supply location in Garfield which can easily be transferred to all KBCo locations within a few days.  Contact any of our sales representatives for more information today. http://www.quietsolution.com/html/quietrock.html

Historic Barn Move

Kuiken Brothers Company Assists in Wyckoff Barn Move
historic barn moveOn Saturday, April 8th, Kuiken Brothers employees Dean Steyling and nephew Doug Steyling Jr., along with his father Doug Sr. assisted the Midland Park / Wyckoff Rotary Club and the Wyckoff Historical Society to save the Depew Barn.
The barn has stood at the rear of the Depew property on Franklin Ave for more than 100 years. It was built prior to the 1901 construction of the DePew house, which was the home of long-time resident Elsie Depew. Elsie was born in the house and lived there until her death at age 99 a few years ago.

historic barn move“Elsie’s house is slated for demolition in the next few weeks to make way for development”, stated Bob Traitz, Wyckoff Historical Society President and a member of the Rotary Club. “We are organizing the community and implementing a plan to move the barn to the McFaul Wildlife Center, where it will be preserved for all to enjoy.”

Traitz explained how the “Save the Barn” effort got started. “The Historical Society first became concerned with the fate of the barn when Elsie passed away in 2002. We contacted Ken DePew, Elsie’s nephew, and Ken put us in touch with Wyckoff Attorney John Spizziri. Mr. Spizziri became a key player in our effort to save the barn”. Traitz continued, “John has worked closely with us, and extended us every courtesy on behalf his clients, Mr. and Mrs. William Kim, of Fort Lee.”

historic barn move “John Spizziri put us in touch with Blue Line Architecture in Wyckoff, where Wayne Johnson and Eric Kiellar offered their expertise creating the engineering drawings and architectural plans. But that was only the beginning,” added Traitz, “A number of other area residents and business professionals have also stepped forward to volunteer for this worthwhile venture.”

The Depew Barn’s planned move to the Wildlife Center location will serve several purposes, including the storage of buckets for the maple sugar site nearby.  At some point, inside programming is a possibility, including educating children about early farm life in the area, and as public access use for apple cider programs and maple sugaring. The location was also the site of the Henkel pig farm until the 1960s, so a historic barn on the site seems appropriate.

historic barn moveBut more is needed to make the barn project a success.  The Midland Park / Wyckoff Rotary Club and the Wyckoff Historical Society, are appealing to area residents for donations, and to community members who can volunteer their time and building skills to this worthwhile cause.

The following local companies also participated in the move SavATree of Wyckoff, D.T. Allen Excavators of Wyckoff, Stone Industries of Haledon, M. Dourado Concrete Inc. from Pearl River, NY, Joel Tanis Co. of Fair Lawn, Bergen Brick and Tile and Ramsey Building Supply, Pfister Roofing

All monetary donations will be used for the Save the Barn project and the Rotary Club’s Foundation will act as steward. Any excess funds will be distributed by the foundation to the Gulf Coast region to aid the victims of the recent hurricane tragedies on the Gulf Coast.  Tax deductible donations may be sent to:

“Rotary’s Save the Barn Fund” P.O. Box 111 Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
