2007 Rough Carpentry Clinic - Friday September 28, 2007
Kuiken Brothers Midland Park, NJ (Annex Building across from dirt lot)
Kuiken Brothers Company, with support from WindsorONE, Senco, Stabila and Andersen Windows & Doors is proud to offer one day hands-on building clinics with Mike Sloggatt, remodeling specialist and nationally recognized author and teacher.

7:30- 8:30 Hot Breakfast

Session 1 - 8:30- 9:30 Waterproof Windows & Doors
One of the most important issues facing construction crews today is the proper installment of windows and exterior doors while maintaining a weather resistive barrier system.  Learn the latest techniques for correct flashing and housewrap coordination; ensure that your windows and doors NEVER leak with the proper use of sill pans, self- adhesive membranes, and site-made metal flashings.

Session 2 - 10:00-11:00 Working With Engineered Lumber
Engineered lumber opens up new dimensions in residential framing. From longer spans to taller walls, ensuring dead strait walls, floors, and ceilings, from I-Joists to laminated lumber, this seminar focuses on specialized installation techniques that will accelerate your jobs and improve your building project profits. Pick up production layout and cutting techniques-- fast & efficient framing methods, along with safety measures that protect the final product from failure. Along the way, learn how to Find the Right Angle!

11:00- 12:00 Lunch

Session 3 - 12:00- 1:00 Building better Decks
The connection to the house is one of the most critical aspects of deck building, and the most prone to failure. Learn proper ledger placement & mounting techniques that ensure durability and strength. Take the worry out of working with treated lumber with a crash course on the latest ACQ- compatible fasteners and hardware. Enhance your profits while protecting your client’s investment by using the best products and designs in composite decking for beauty & sustainability.

Session 4 - 1:30- 2:30 Radius Exterior Trim
Round out the day with a session on curved trim. Having found the Right Angle, move on to mastering the mathematics of circles and making arch-top trim the easy way: calculate the radius of a segmented arch; cut radius heads with a plunge router and trammel arm; heatbend pvc head casings. Finally, learn techniques to plot an ellipse and take home plans for making a simple jig that cuts a perfect ellipse. Use the same techniques for framing coved ceilings and curved hips.
